Downtown Toronto

So what do us students do in our free time? Well, downtown Toronto offers lots of places to eat and shop, as well as museums.

Royal Ontario Museum - The Crystal

Royal Ontario Museum – The Crystal

The picture above shows the exterior of the Royal Ontario Museum. This is the new entrance for the museum constructed in 2007. The architect who designed this part of the museum is Daniel Libeskind, and he gave it the name of “The Crystal”. The name reflects the jagged angular edges of the building. Feel free to stop and take pictures, it’s a pretty popular spot for pictures.

Walking down this street, we’ll soon be the shopping centre for the wealthy elite, Holt Renfrew!

This is the place where students break their wallets if they want to treat themselves to something nice. The use of accent lights, bright ambient lighting, and smooth textures for finishings create a luxurious feel when you walk in. Everything is orderly and neatly showcased, which means you might actually feel a little out of place if you’re dressed nicely that day. But if you’re not in the mood to spend all your money, then we can go to Dundas Square instead.

This is definitely the place to be if you want to experience the “big city” feel. At night all those flashy signs light up, a common characteristic of most big city squares in the world.

Urban, loud, street music, crowded, lively. These are the words I would use to describe when you pass through Dundas Square. To the left, you have Eaton Centre, Toronto’s largest shopping centre. To the right you have a movie theatre, eateries, a subway station and more.

If you’re ever looking to spice up a quiet Friday night, I’d definitely recommend you take a stroll through this lively urban centre and I guarantee you will find something of interest to you.
